The Slightly Technical ToneX captures are tone models of gear from my personal collection. These amplifiers and pedals are not commercially available and are either original designs, designs inspired by famous units, or uniquely modified pieces of equipment. Each piece of gear was crafted with carefully selected components, meticulously measured, and calibrated to achieve the desired tonal qualities.
The Trouble Booster is a one-of-a-kind pedal inspired by the vintage Dallas Rangemaster, which was responsible for numerous guitar tones that shaped rock history. The Trouble Booster is actually two pedals in one, featuring a switch that toggles between two circuits: a Silicon circuit and a Germanium circuit. With these two circuits in a single pedal, you can choose between two distinct flavors, each with its own unique character.
In addition, this pedal includes a variable filter that controls how much low end is fed into the pedal. Traditionally, the Rangemaster has a very aggressive filter that cuts low frequencies (hence the name “Treble Booster”), but this pedal allows you to adjust how much low end is cut. This means it can function as a “treble” boost, a “flat” boost, or even a full-range “fuzzy” boost.
This collection includes six different Tone Models. Circuits like this are captured using a half-drained 9V carbon-zinc battery, as I believe this provides the pedals with their authentic tone. The pedal was captured at various settings of the filter control (which is mistakenly labeled as "Gain" on the pedal), as well as in the two modes: Germanium and Silicon. Details about the settings are provided in the description of the presets.
