The Slightly Technical ToneX captures are tone models of gear from my personal collection. These amplifiers and pedals are not commercially available and are either original designs, designs inspired by famous units, or uniquely modified pieces of equipment. Each piece of gear was crafted with carefully selected components, meticulously measured, and calibrated to achieve the desired tonal qualities.
This is a collection of Tone Models of my custom-made Mosrite Fuzzrite-inspired pedal. While the original Fuzzrite is typically a silicon-based NPN transistor design, my version, the Fuzzbite, uses PNP Germanium transistors. This results in a sound that is noticeably different from the classic circuit, but it’s just as nasty and lovely in its own unique way.
The Fuzzbite is one of my favorite fuzz circuits because of its extreme nastiness. The way this circuit distorts is incredibly inspiring—it practically demands that you stop playing the guitar and start playing the pedal instead.
This collection includes three Tone Models. The circuit is very simple, featuring a Volume control and a Depth control, which functions more like a Blend control, blending between two out-of-phase gain stages. The Tone Models are sampled at different positions of the Depth control, providing a variety of harmonic structures to choose from. This unit does not have tone controls and is intentionally designed to sound nasal and midrangey.
