Fuzzology 2 - Devastation Superfuzz

Hairy, nasty, overdistorted... Call it whatever you want. This one is designed to harm audiences.

The Slightly Technical ToneX captures are tone models of gear from my personal collection. These amplifiers and pedals are not commercially available and are either original designs, designs inspired by famous units, or uniquely modified pieces of equipment. Each piece of gear was crafted with carefully selected components, meticulously measured, and calibrated to achieve the desired tonal qualities.

This is a collection of Tone Models of my custom-made Superfuzz pedal. The Superfuzz is a legendary circuit inspired by the vintage Univox Superfuzz, with some additional improvements to the design. It features a Tone knob that allows blending the EQ in and out of the circuit, a useful feature since the Superfuzz is known for its distinct scooped midrange sound. Some vintage units included a switch for this purpose.

In recent years, the Superfuzz circuit has been reissued and redesigned by various companies, resulting in pedals like the Boss FZ-2 Hyper Fuzz, the Behringer Super Fuzz SF300, and others. While each brand has added its own twist, they all stem from the same foundational circuit.

My take on the Superfuzz stays true to the original design, with carefully selected transistors to maximize the octave effect and enhance harmonic richness.

This collection includes four Tone Models. Since the pedal is typically heavily distorted, I’ve identified the settings where it responds best with the Gain knob. Each Tone Model features a distinct voicing of the Tone control—ranging from full midrange to fully scooped. With the ToneX controls, you can dial in every possible tone (and more) that I could achieve with the actual pedal.
